Former Chairman Roger Key has kindly volunteered to organise the spring road run, which will start from Castleton Farm shop for breakfast, before departing into The Mearns.
A recent route check for the run through the Angus glens was going swimmingly until ascending Glenisla, when once again the route was closed. This road had been driven a few days earlier rom Glen Shee to Kirriemiur without issue.
Passing the diversion signs and progressing up the Glen to speak with the road gang, the foreman advised that although the road surfaces are good, they are now progressing back up the glen to fix curbing and drains. The work will take some time and they are intermittently closing the road.
The B951 actually degrades down to C-class in the higher intervals, with fewer passing places and hence the original planned route has been amended.
The re-route now has us dropping down towards Alyth, from the glens, and then onto Blairgowrie, turning up the A93 to Ballater. After Castleton Farm shop, we've planned on two further rest/refreshment stops, about one hour apart, firstly at Peel Farm Shop, east of Kirrie, then the Tea@The Shee at the Ski Centre. Both have good facilities.
If you would like to join us, please let Roger or Martyn know as soon as possible as breakfast pre-orders need to be submitted.
The annual Crathes Vintage Car and Motorcycle Rally will once again be held at Milton Field in Crathes, near Banchory, Aberdeenshire.

With over 200 cars and motorcycles on display as well as other family attractions, it is the perfect day for all ages.

Back in 1958, a local landowner in the district of Kildrummy in upper Donside, Aberdeenshire thought it would be a good idea to invite fellow old-vehicle enthusiasts to get together with their vehicles and show them off to each other and to the public. It so happens that the field chosen as an arena for this event was in the shadow of one of Scotland’s most ancient and massive ruined castles – Kildrummy Castle.
The rally of kindred spirits proved to be a great success and that single event became the foundation of the Kildrummy Veteran and Vintage Vehicles Club, and the subsequent running of an annual Vintage Car Rally. As with many historical motor transport rallies the members of the Club have always focussed on vehicles that are road legal and in running order – and proving their fitness with a road run has been a feature of each rally.
Motor-cycles, cars and lorries of bye-gone times have charmed generations of spectators along the roads of Donside and Aberdeenshire, and the existence of the club has prompted local folk to preserve and restore elderly vehicles that might have otherwise gone to the tip! This kernel of enthusiasm was partly responsible for the nearby Alford Transport Museum which itself is now a yearlong attraction with a superb and changing display, enhanced by several annual motorsport events. Kildrummy Castle has a history dating back to the 13th century and is worthy of a visit from anyone interested in the history of Scotland.
At the time of writing, there is not much information about this years event but it is assumed that it will be held once again on the Kildrummy Estate,
Further details and an entry form can be downloaded via the following link.
The Bon Accord Steam Engine Club host the annual steam fair over a weekend at Castle Fraser in Aberdeenshire. The event includes steam engines, vintage tractors, vintage and classic cars, working exhibits, commercial vehicles, stationary engines, military vehicles, models and miniature steam and much more.
With a licensed bar on site and several local food outlets, why not make a day of your visit to the event.
Upon entering the event, be sure to pick up a programme (small fee applicable) and be greeted by our many craft and retail stalls as well as some classic cars. In the centre of the field you will find our family entertainment rides, food and bar before moving on to our main arena which hosts a selection of games and parades of vehicles throughout the day. Further along, get up close and personal with our steam engines and crews before moving up to the joining field to view our vintage vehicles, tractors and displays.
Once again the Bon Accord Steam Rally chairman Jamie Blair (formerly of Gillanders MG) has very kindly extended an invitation to Club members to display their cars at the event on both days free of charge.
Last year we had 14 cars on our Club Stand at this event - lets see if we can beat that this year!
Further details to follow but please advise if you would like to be a part of our display.
Our traditional evening run on the Summer Solstice.
Despite the date being close to the Gathering of the Clans, it was unanimousley agreed at the AGM that the event should go ahead, and Lewis Mackland stepped up to the plate and agreed to organise this annual tradition!
For the last few years, this popular event has been held in September in Doune. Unfortunately though, in recent years it has been spoilt by being very cold and wet.
Open to all the Scottish MG Owners Clubs, the theory is that each region takes a turn at hosting the event. Following last years special Gathering which celebrated 100 years of MG at MG100 Ecosse, it became the turn of another Club to host the event in 2024.
We have therefore volunteered to host this year's Gathering and the provisional plan is that the main Gatheirng will be at the Grampian Transport Museum on Saturday 22nd June, followed by an evening meal in a local hotel where a number of the visiting clubs will be staying. On Sunday, there will be a leisurely road run to Balmoral Castle where it is hoped that we can photograph the cars in front of the Castle, have a tour, followed by lunch. After this, everyone will disperse home.
These details are currently provisional and will be cnfirmed as soon as possible.
The 55th R W Thomson Memorial Rally will once again be held at Minerallwell Park in Stonehaven on 30th June.
We will most likely have a Club stand at the event so please submit an individual entry using the form at the link below and advise Roger or Martyn if you plan to attend.
Further details from Alan Innes on 07739 979212.
The Strathmore Vintage Vehicle Club will hold the 48th Scottish Transport Extravaganza in the magnificent grounds of Glamis Castle over the weekend of 13th & 14th July 2024.
This event is regarded as the premier vintage motoring spectacular in Scotland and is one of the largest of its kind in Britain.
This display will bring together over 1700 vehicles representing a wide array of transport comprising veteran, vintage and classic vehicles and machinery (cars, commercials, military, tractors, steam engines, motor cycles, static engines and exhibits)
A significant part of the display is created by the various car clubs who attend this event. In addition to the vehicles the event attracts over 150 Stands including auto jumble, motor trade, antiques and fundraising stalls.
Filling each day will be the usual variety of parades and pipe bands and amusements for adults and children of all ages.
To cater for the multitude of event goers a healthy selection of quality food vendors will be present to provide snacks, refreshments, full meals or simply a cool ice cream.
Holding the Extravaganza in the grounds of Glamis Castle provides a magnificent backdrop to our event and guided tours of the Castle are available to those who wish to participate.
Come along and enjoy a great day out for all the family at the Scottish Transport Extravaganza.
The event is open from 9am to 5pm both days and parking for visitors is free, dogs are welcome provided they are kept on a lead.
