The Sir Jackie Stewart Classic - Thirlestane Castle - 18th & 19th June

The Sir Jackie Stewart classic was held at Thirlestane Castle on 18th and 19th June in aid of Race Against Dementia, the charity founded by Sir Jackie to raise money for research into prevention and treatment for dementia, a disease that affects 50 million people worldwide including his beloved wife, Helen.

The Sunday of the event marked the 50th anniversary of the Borders Vintage Automobile Club (BVAC) – and the 15th anniversary of the BVAC Classic Car Show at Thirlestane – one of the biggest and best car rallies in the country.

Over the two days, visitors were treated to a  display of over 1,200 Veteran, Vintage and Classic Cars, Motorcycles, American Cars, Commercial, Agricultural and Military Vehicles.  The hillclimb / sprint up the drive to the Castle was contested by a number of interesting and historic cars and included some memorable demonstration runs, including a Red Bull F1 car.

The event also showcased the career and achievements of three-time FIA Formula 1 Drivers’ World Champion Sir Jackie Stewart OBE.

Although we didn't have a Club stand, a number of members attended on either the Saturday, Sunday or both and all agreed it was a brilliant event.  The MG Car Club had a stand and so we will look into possibly joining forces with them next year or having an Owners Club stand incorporating a number of the Scottish Regions.

Below are a few random photos I took at the event; note that a Google search will reveal a large number of photo and video collections, as well as reports and reviews from the event, all of which are well worth looking at.

Our very own John Pace entered the sprint in his trusty MGB GT and his experience over the 2 days can be found by clicking on the link below:
