Bon Accord Steam Fare - Saturday 14th and Sunday 15th June
The Chairman of the Bon Accord Steam Engine Club, Jamie Blair, once again very kindly extended an invitation to club members to attend the Bon Accord Steam Fair which was held over the weekend of 14th and 15th June in the grounds of NTS Castle Fraser. Our association with Jamie first started many years ago when he was General Manager of the MG franchise in Aberdeen which, at that time, was Gillanders at Altens and the club used to assist them with MG open days and similar events. They were also very generous sponsors of our events and we were all very disappointed when they gave up the franchise. Nonetheless we have maintained a very close relationship with Jamie and look forward every year to the magnificent steam fair.
The Steam Fair is an annual event and has been based at Castle Fraser since 2004 . Since relocating, the event has grown in size over the years and in 2010 the Bon Accord club celebrated their 40th Anniversary, with 40 full-size engines present and many more attractions on site.
Their 45th anniversary year was celebrated in 2015, with an impressive line up of over 45 full-size engines, along with many other classic and vintage vehicles.
The event includes steam engines, vintage tractors, vintage and classic cars, working exhibits, commercial vehicles, stationary engines, military vehicles, models and miniature steam and a number of stalls and demonstrations. With the Castle as a backdrop, the main arena is the centre of entertainment for the weekend.
Sadly though, the Saturday was once again a total disaster weather wise with very heavy rain for much of the day, however a handful of members braved the elements and despite the weather, enjoyed the days activities. Thankfully, Sunday's weather was a vast improvement and around a dozen members had a very entertaining day with an impressive array of classic cars and steam engines on display, and plenty of other attractions to keep them entertained.
Many thanks once again to Jamie and his enthusiastic team who put on a fabulous event every year and fingers crossed the weather is better next year - the field in and out was quite challenging this year after the Saturday rain!
