Annual Solstice Run - June 21st

Our annual Solstice Run this year was ably organised by John and Jill Chessor who came up with a a fantastic route of around 60 miles, taking in many unfamiliar roads through west Aberdeenshire.

The event started at the Westhill Shopping Centre Car Park at around 18:00 and thankfully, the forecast thunderstorms had just about finished by around 17:00 so we were treated to some welcome warm sunshine and a very pleasant run.

John and Jill had made the run a treasure hunt by including some cryptic clues which could be solved by observing various signs and features along the route, which took us from Westhill through Garlogie, Millbank, Keig, Auvchleven, over the fabulous Suie to the Bridge of Alford and then to Aboyne via Craigevar.

By 20:00 we had all arrived safe and sound at the Boat Inn in Aboyne for a fabulous meal.

No peace for John though, as he had to mark the answer sheets and the end result was a tie between Graham and Shirley Rettie and Innes and Sarah Simpson.  Luckily, John had foreseen this and had included a tie break question which was "There are 41 diners at the Boat this evening, how many ordered a fish supper?"  Graham and Shirley were closest and were declared the winners.

A great time was had by all and special thanks to John and Jill for their hard work and to Roger for the pictures below.
